Bilt Credit Card 2.0: How Bilt Works and Which Card to Get

Bilt Rewards lets you earn Bilt points on rent, mortgage, and HOA payments with no transaction fee when you pay with a Bilt card. The three cards are Blue ($0 annual fee), Obsidian ($95), and Palladium ($495). Those points transfer to 26 airline, hotel, and rail partners. Pick Blue if you want housing rewards with no fee, Obsidian if dining or groceries are your biggest non-housing spend, and Palladium if you will use the hotel credits and Priority Pass often enough to justify $495.

Key facts

Annual fees
Blue is $0, Obsidian is $95, and Palladium is $495. Housing payments made through Bilt have no transaction fee on any of the three.

Authorized user fees
The offer terms charge $50 per authorized user on Obsidian and $95 per authorized user on Palladium. They do not list an authorized-user fee for Blue.

Housing earn
Housing-only earns 0.5x to 1.25x on rent, mortgage, and HOA based on everyday spend that cycle, with a 250-point floor. Flexible Bilt Cash earns 4% Bilt Cash on everyday spend and unlocks at most 1x on housing. You do not get both at once. Housing-only is the default.

Transfer partners and odd ratios
Bilt's partner article lists 18 airlines, 7 hotels, and Amtrak, 26 partners in all. Most ratios are 1:1. Accor Live Limitless is 3:2, I Prefer Hotel Rewards is 1:2, and Amtrak Guest Rewards is 2:1. American Airlines is not on the list.

World of Hyatt ratio
Bilt's partner article, updated September 23, 2026, still shows World of Hyatt at 1:1. Reported by The Points Guy: the ratio becomes 4:3 on January 1, 2027, including for Palladium. We did not find that notice on the public partner list.

Rent Day
On the 1st of each month, from March 1, 2026 through January 1, 2027, cardholders earn double points on eligible everyday purchases, not on housing. The bonus is capped at 1,000 points per rewards account per month. Monthly transfer bonuses are separate and change; the September 2026 terms are one example, not a standing bonus.

Which Bilt card should you get?

  • Get Blue when the fee is the thing you want to avoid
  • Get Obsidian when one food category is large enough to clear $95
  • Get Palladium only if the credits and the lounge are real for you
  • Pick the housing option after you see which tier you actually hit

Get Blue when the fee is the thing you want to avoid

Blue is the card when you want points on rent or a mortgage and you do not want a fee. On $2,000 of housing and $500 of other spend (25% of housing), Housing-only pays 0.5x, which is 1,000 housing points that month, plus 1x on the $500.

That profile is a weak reason to pay $95 or $495. Restaurant and Bilt Travel bonuses can beat a flat 1x, but they do not replace Obsidian's 3x category when food is most of the spend. Figures use the Bilt calculator defaults: 2.2 cents per point and $0.75 per $1 of Bilt Cash. Hotel credit is what you would actually use. These examples count $0 unless a sentence says the full card maximum. Portal, Lyft, and Bilt Dining bonuses are extra. Open the calculator.

Get Obsidian when one food category is large enough to clear $95

Take $2,000 of housing and $1,500 of other spend: $800 dining, $200 groceries, $150 travel, and $350 everything else. The ratio is 75%, so Housing-only pays 1x on housing, 2,000 points that month.

On Housing-only, counting $0 of hotel credit, Blue's ongoing year is $924 at 2.2 cents per point. Obsidian, with dining selected, is $1,291. The gap is $367 after the $95 fee.

If you would use the full $100 hotel credit on two separate 2-night Bilt Travel stays, Obsidian rises to $1,391. A one-night stay does not trigger it. Groceries use the same math until $25,000 in a calendar year, then that category falls to 1x. Same calculator defaults as the Blue example.

Get Palladium only if the credits and the lounge are real for you

On that same $2,000 housing and $1,500 everyday profile, still counting $0 of hotel credit, Palladium's ongoing year is $975. That figure values the $200 January Bilt Cash deposit at $0.75 per dollar and subtracts the $495 fee. Obsidian on the same assumption is $1,291, so the $495 card does not win on points alone when dining is the bonus category.

Palladium at $0 of hotel credit ($975) stays a little above Blue ($924) because of 2x everyday earn and that January Bilt Cash. It does not fall below Blue when the hotel credit is left at $0. Counting the full $400, which applies only if you would book the two-night portal stays, raises Palladium to $1,375. That is still just under Obsidian with its $100 credit used ($1,391). Priority Pass for you and two guests, and for a $95 authorized user, is the other half of the fee. If you will not use the lounges or the hotel credit, do not pay $495 for 2x.

The welcome offer is the strongest of the three: 50,000 points + Gold status after $4,000 in non-housing purchases in the first 90 days, plus $300 Bilt Cash on approval. The 50,000 points count only if non-housing spend would reach $4,000 in 90 days. Housing payments do not count, and this ongoing-year figure leaves the welcome offer out.

Pick the housing option after you see which tier you actually hit

Housing-only and Flexible Bilt Cash are a switch, not a stack. On $2,000 of housing and $2,000 of other spend the ratio is 100%, so Housing-only pays 1.25x: 2,500 housing points. Flexible Bilt Cash earns 4% of $2,000, which is $80. Redeeming $60 unlocks the 1x cap (2,000 points) and leaves $20.

For Blue, with $0 of hotel credit, Flexible Bilt Cash is the higher recurring value: Housing-only nets $1,188 and Flexible Bilt Cash nets $1,236. The winner flips if you value Bilt Cash differently.

At the low end, $500 of spend on $2,000 of housing is the 0.5x tier, 1,000 housing points. Flexible Bilt Cash on $500 earns $20 and unlocks 667 housing points. Below 25%, Housing-only drops to the 250-point floor. The calculator reruns this when rent or spend changes.

How do Bilt housing points work?

You pay rent, a mortgage, or HOA through Bilt. The payment adds no transaction fee, and there is no annual cap. You can pay more than one property. If you never choose a rewards option, the account defaults to Housing-only. You cannot earn both options in the same cycle.

Housing-only scores the billing cycle after it closes. Everyday spend posted that cycle is divided by housing payments posted that cycle. The card terms chart, using a $2,000 housing payment, is:

  • At least 25% and under 50% of housing ($500 of spend) earns 0.5x, or 1,000 points.
  • At least 50% and under 75% ($1,000) earns 0.75x, or 1,500 points.
  • At least 75% and under 100% ($1,500) earns 1x, or 2,000 points.
  • 100% or more ($2,000) earns 1.25x, or 2,500 points.

Under 25%, there is no multiplier. The primary cardholder still gets 250 points if at least one housing payment posted and the account is in good standing. Authorized users do not each get their own 250. Returns that post later reduce the current cycle's spend. This option earns no 4% Bilt Cash.

Flexible Bilt Cash earns 4% Bilt Cash on everyday spend instead. Housing itself does not earn Bilt Cash. Every $3 of Bilt Cash unlocks 100 points, and you cannot unlock more than 1 point per $1 of that housing payment. $30 covers $1,000 of housing at 1x. Unused Bilt Cash stays for the other redemptions in the Bilt Cash terms. You do not get the 1.25x tiers in this mode.

On Housing-only, the primary cardholder and authorized users pool spend and housing payments to set the ratio. On Flexible Bilt Cash, an authorized user redeems their own Bilt Cash against their own housing payment. The primary cardholder chooses which account receives those points.

Bilt Cash is not cash back. This site's calculator values it at $0.75 per $1 unless you change that.

What does a Housing-only month look like?

Housing of $2,000 posts on April 5. Everyday spend from March 28 through April 27 is $1,500. The ratio is 75%, the 1x tier, so that payment earns 2,000 points after the statement closes. It does not earn 1.25x, because 1.25x starts at 100%.

Raise everyday spend to $2,000 in the same cycle and the ratio hits 100%. The chart pays 1.25x, or 2,500 points. Twelve identical months are 30,000 housing points, worth $660 at 2.2 cents, before points on the everyday spend itself.

Pair that $2,000 payment with only $400 of card spend and you miss the 25% tier. The multiplier is 0 and the primary cardholder gets the 250-point floor once for the whole account.

What does a Flexible Bilt Cash month look like?

Same $2,000 housing payment and $1,500 of everyday spend. Flexible Bilt Cash earns 4% of $1,500, which is $60. At $3 per 100 points, $60 unlocks 2,000 points, the 1x cap, and spends the whole $60. You finish with 2,000 housing points and no leftover Bilt Cash.

Housing-only on that month is also 2,000 points, because $1,500 is the 75% tier. The two options tie. The split shows up when spend crosses the housing payment. At $2,000 of everyday spend, Housing-only pays 2,500 points and no Bilt Cash. Flexible earns $80, spends $60 to unlock 2,000 points, and keeps $20. Over twelve identical months, with $0 of hotel credit, the calculator values Blue at $1,188 on Housing-only and $1,236 on Flexible Bilt Cash.

If you will spend leftover Bilt Cash on partner credits you actually use, it can beat the extra 0.25x. If you will not, take the points.

Where should you send Bilt points?

Transfer after you have a flight or hotel to book. Bilt's help article says transfers are not reversible, most post immediately, Southwest can take up to 72 hours, and the minimum is 2,000 points at Blue status or 1,000 at Silver, Gold, or Platinum, in 1,000-point steps.

World of Hyatt is still 1:1 on the public list. A cut to 4:3 on January 1, 2027 is reported by The Points Guy, not printed there. The Hyatt transfer ratios page puts Bilt next to the Chase cards. For flights, the useful 1:1 options are Air Canada Aeroplan, United MileagePlus, Air France/KLM Flying Blue, Atmos Rewards (Alaska and Hawaiian), Southwest Rapid Rewards, British Airways Executive Club, and JAL Mileage Bank. The table below has the best use for each.

Two ratios punish a habit transfer. Accor Live Limitless is 3:2, so 3,000 Bilt points become 2,000 Accor points. Amtrak Guest Rewards is 2:1, so 2,000 Bilt points from a 1x housing month become 1,000 Amtrak points. Use Amtrak when the train fare is the trip you already want. I Prefer goes the other way, 1:2, and only helps if you have a Preferred Hotels stay priced in those points.

The rest of the 26, including partners skipped here, is on transfer partners.

Transfer partners worth knowing

Bilt Rewards lists 26 partners. These are the ones that change how you use the points. Ratios come from the shared transfer table, checked 2026-10-17. Partner list source.

What do Bilt status and Rent Day actually change?

Bilt status is Blue, Silver, Gold, or Platinum. The partner article uses status for the transfer minimum: 2,000 points at Blue status, 1,000 at Silver, Gold, or Platinum. It does not publish a spend chart for earning each tier, so this page does not invent one. Palladium's welcome offer includes Gold after $4,000 of non-housing spend. The card terms say that status lasts the rest of the year you earn it, the next calendar year, and through January 15 of the year after that. Gold earned in 2026 runs through January 15, 2028.

Rent Day is the 1st, from 12:00 am Eastern through 11:59 pm Pacific. From March 1, 2026 through January 1, 2027, the card pays one bonus point on top of the base rate for eligible everyday purchases. Housing, taxes, and many third-party bill-pay charges are excluded. The bonus caps at 1,000 points per rewards account per month. On Blue the 1st can pay 2x instead of 1x until that cap. On Palladium the terms describe 4x that day on non-housing purchases (2x base plus 2x bonus), again until 1,000 bonus points.

A Rent Day transfer bonus is a different offer every month. September 2026's terms included a Virgin bonus that scaled with status. That sheet does not set October or November. Read the current month before you move points for a bonus.

Is the Bilt Obsidian worth $95?

It is worth the fee when 3x on the category you pick, plus the $100 hotel credit if you will book two 2-night Bilt Travel stays, beats Blue by more than $95. The credit is $50 twice a year and does not pay a one-night stay. Use the calculator with your dining and grocery split before you upgrade.
